Awards and Recognition

I have traveled extensively to most parts of the world including: Europe, Caribbean, Africa, Egypt, Dubai, Southeast Asia, India and South America. My specialties include Luxury Small Ship cruising, World Cruises, Private Jet programs and African Safaris. I also provide my clients customized itineraries upon request. In the past 12 months, I have traveled with Orient-Express Safaris to Southern Africa, sailed on Silversea Cruises from Dubai to Singapore, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises to the Caribbean.  I published an article in é Bella magazine detailing my experiences in Southern Africa with Orient-Express Safaris.

Travel is my passion! First and foremost are planning exciting and memorable travel experiences for my clients. My enthusiasm for exploring the world, whether a new destination or a treasured favorite, has made me knowledgeable and given me first-hand experience in many corners of the globe. I have sailed on almost every luxury cruise ship, traveled by private jet, stayed in many of the world’s luxury hotels and explored sights by private car and guide. These experiences have allowed me to better serve my clients.

A graduate of Michigan State University, Karen has been in the travel industry for the past thirty years. Upon graduation, she moved to Paris, France and worked for the impressionist art gallery Durand-Ruel for three years. Returning to the United States, Karen taught French in Troy, Michigan and worked during the summer for a travel agency. Her love of travel resulted in a move to Fort Worth, Texas where she began her full time travel career with Neiman-Marcus. She has managed travel agencies in Texas and Ohio and has worked for two cruise lines in addition to leading escorted group tours. Karen has been a Certified Travel Consultant (CTC), the highest accreditation in the travel industry, since 1982 and has also earned the designation Destination Specialist (DS) for the South Pacific and France. She has traveled extensively thoughout Europe, to the Caribbean and to China. She most enjoyes planning the perfect personalized vacations for her clients. Karen joined Betty Maclean Travel, Inc. as a senior travel consultant in May of 2001.

I have traveled extensively to most parts of the world including: Asia, India, East and South Africa, Egypt, Russia, United Kingdom and the Continent of Europe. Italy has been a yearly vacation for each of the past 10 years.

My specialties include luxury small ships, residential ships, private jet travel, and world cruises. I also love hotels! Wherever I travel, I enjoy learning about hotels. Once a client selected a hotel in Florence, Italy from a guidebook, which I knew they wouldn’t like. While I was in Italy, I photographed it and then took photographs of the hotel where I thought they should stay. I sent the photographs and suggested they reconsider. My clients phoned and thanked me and said they wouldn’t trust a guidebook or an internet website - only me.

To say my passion is travel is an understatement! I have sailed on almost every luxury cruise ship and the only residential luxury ship at sea, on safari in East and Southern Africa, sailed by private yacht, stayed in many of the world’s luxury hotels and explored sights by private car and guide. These experiences have allowed me to better serve my clients.

Lillian has more fun traveling than anyone else you will ever work with. She has been in the business for 12 years. She has earned her CTC and is a Destination Specialist for Western Europe and the South Pacific. Her favorite place to visit is sub Saharan Africa, where on a recent trip she got to brush noses with one of the camp's resident elephants!
She has been featured in Town and Country Travel. Her dream trip would be a private jet tour visiting many interesting destinations in luxury and comfort.

Zahra, a British Black Labrador Retriever, was born July 4, 2007 and joined the Ramsey and Betty Maclean  Travel family in October.  She's already well-traveled, having made road trips from Florida to Michigan twice, with a side trip to Ohio!  She loves to swim and play fetch, and visit all of her friends in the office!
